Today we sink our teeth into the most primal DIY metal we could find. Inspired by the likes of Converge & Zao and my local Canadians legends in Counterparts & Cursed. Opening their second chapter of Man Is The Most Dangerous Animal, today we unfold the horrors of their newest release “VOL. 2: BIND / TORTURE / KILL”.

With Man Is The Most Dangerous Animal, each album thus far is focused on a different serial killer and the music presented is their interpretation on the violence of the crimes or personality of the killer themselves. “Vol. 2 is about Dennis Rader, the BTK killer. We used his double life as blueprint for the album lyrically as well as sonically which gave us more space to incorporate other genres into the mix”. The CEO of DIY, and the man behind the curtain for Man Is The Most Dangerous Animal is their vocalist Cody who also drums on the record and does most everything else you see and hear for the band.

“I am extremely proud of this album. We did almost everything ourselves from writing, recording and mixing. I do all of the artwork and layout for our albums and merchandise and we shoot our own music videos. If I could get some decent distro I would be doing that too. The mastering and the pressing of our records are the only things we didn't do and I think that is pretty rad.”

The band itself is currently a very interesting “project” in the sense that they haven’t played live or as a full band together yet which makes for a very unique creative process of keeping it raw. “[Our writing process] is 100% through text & email. Matt or Ian will send a riff or a song idea to me and I will start working on drums. Once drums are done I start demoing vocals with gibberish to get the structure and then I will write lyrics with that structure in mind.” Talks on how to logistically pivot into a live band are in place as they are itching to hit stages.

“We try to be as DIY as possible. Once the demos are set in stone I will record the drums in my home studio. Anyone that engineers their own drumming knows what a nightmare that can be, but I get to do as many takes as I want until I am happy. Once drums are recorded and a basic mix is done I drive to Matt's place and record guitars in a day usually. After guitars have been tracked Ian will travel to Illinois and bust out his bass parts in another day. Quick and dirty.”

Cody is already looking to the bright future of their dark music with big plans “We already have our subject for Vol. 3 and there have been some ideas sent back and forth so hopefully that will start to take shape soon-ish. I would love to see us get some label support for distribution and help us heighten our visibility.”

Riding Tiger Records is our label. It has been the machine behind releasing all of the MITMDA stuff as well as re-releases from Secretary and some of our older projects. We also joined NOISE ORDER in 2024 which is kind of a collective started by Joel from Burning Bridge Recordings. Vol. 2 was released on March 1st, 2024. So it is over a year old now, but since we haven't played shows yet we’re grateful to still be reaching new people daily.
