Good God, Gros Enfant Mort is back. Tearing up metallic screamo melodies from their home in Poitiers, France and returning to debut their new single “Saigne! Saigne! Saigne!” The track features melodies so beautiful and haunting weaved into the music while simultaneously unleashing Logan of Gillian Carter as a collaborator on the track. “This song talks about social violence hiding behind norms, appearances, and so-called ‘reasonable’ life paths. It challenges the pressure to succeed individually and conform: constraints that suffocate, isolate, and push people to erase themselves just to stay ‘in their place’. It’s a call to break those invisible chains and search for alternate paths, even in the midst of chaos,” the band tells us.
Not Just A Phase is truly honored to be debuting the newest track from Gros Enfant Mort as they rightfully put themselves back on the throne of french screamo.
Saigne! Saigne! Saigne!
The single is part of an upcoming album that’s earmarked to drop sometime around January 2026 so I won’t personally speak on its sound too much, but the band tells us that the album touches on depression, grief, burnout, alienation, and the structures that feed those things. “I’m not interested in personal development narratives. I want to talk about suffering without pretending it’s something to fix inside ourselves. Sometimes, pain is a sign that the world around us is wrong, so the album is also about collective revolt as a way out.”
”I wrote it at a time when I felt I had nothing left and was really lost in life. It didn’t bring joy or healing, but it gave me clarity and forced some introspection. If someone else hears that and feels less alone, that’s more than I could hope.” Alexis goes on to tell us “Even though the album is written like a diary and is very personal, I address many political topics because mental health issues affect the majority of people and are therefore systemic.”
“THE UNDERLYING MESSAGE IS A CALL FOR COLLECTIVE REVOLT AIMING TOWARD LIBERATION FROM ALL FORMS OF ALIENATION: WHETHER THEY BE RACIST, SEXIST, CLASSIST, ABLEIST OR COLONIALIST.”
“WHEN EXISTING ITSELF NO LONGER SEEMS TO MAKE MUCH SENSE IN TODAY’S WORLD, REVOLT DOES: IT GIVES MEANING, BY STRIVING TO MAKE THIS WORLD MORE LIVABLE FOR THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING.”
- ALEXIS SEBASTIAN, @GROSENFANTMORT
With influences on the creative process that go beyond just music, Alexis tells us “I’m just as inspired by books, conversations, or everyday life under pressure. It’s not structured. I write when I can’t keep things in anymore. It’s more about endurance than inspiration. The song was written in French at first and parts were translated to English when Logan proposed to do a guest spot.”
In terms of the writing itself Alexis and the band tell us that despite it being a solo project and solely composed by Alexis, every other decision is made as a band. “I record demos at home while writing. For the final tracks, I recorded all the instruments at Studio Stadie in Parthenay : Louis’s studio. The vocals were done in my bedroom & Logan recorded his part at home too so we compiled everything later during mixing.”
With plans to have the album drop in early 2026, we asked Alexis about the future of Gros Enfant Mort and what they hope to achieve on their journey. “We just want this record to reach the people who need it. We want to keep playing shows where the connection feels real. If the project grows, great. If it stays as it is, that’s fine too, as long as we’re still doing it with care and without compromise.”
One track isn’t nearly enough but we’ve all been put on notice now. Keep your eyes on the bands socials and watch out for the physical album release early next year coming out on Moment of Collapse Records, No Funeral Records, Fireflies Fall, and Spleencore Records.
Gros Enfant Mort is Alexis on vocals and all instruments, Arthur & Lucas on guitars, Quintin on bass, and Louis on drums.
